Description:

Alanineaminotransferase(ALT)isatransaminaseenzyme(EC2.6.1.2).Itisalsocalledserumglutamicpyruvictransaminase(SGPT)oralaninetransaminase(ALAT).ALTisfoundinserumandinvariousbodilytissues,butisusuallyassociatedwiththeliver.Itcatalyzesthereaction:

α-ketoglutarate+alanine⇌glutamate+pyruvate.

Itiscommonlymeasuredclinicallyasapartofadiagnosticliverfunctiontesttodetermineliverhealth.Diagnostically,itisalmostalwaysmeasuredinunits/liter(U/L).InALTAssayKit,ALTcatalyzesthetransferofanaminogroupfromalanineto⍺-ketoglutarate,theproductsofthisreversIBLetransaminationreactionbeingpyruvateandglutamate.Thepyruvateisdetectedinareactionthatconcomitantlyconvertsanearlycolorlessprobetobothcolor(λmax=570nm)andfluorescence(Ex/Em=535/587nm).Thekitprovidesarapid,simple,sensitive,andreliabletestsuitableforhighthroughputactivityassayofALTwithadetectionlimitof10mUperwell.
